放射線グラフト重合法によって作製した繊維に固定したヨウ化銀を使う水の過冷却の低減Breaking of Supercooling of Water Using Silver Iodide Immobilized on Fiber Prepared by Radiation-induced Graft Polymerization

ヨウ化銀(AgI)は,その結晶の構造が氷晶の構造に類似しているので,氷晶核形成物質である。過冷却を抑制する物質としてのヨウ化銀の利用を拡げるために,放射線グラフト重合法を使って作製した陰イオン交換繊維にヨウ化銀の沈殿を固定した。ヨウ化銀固定繊維をプラスチック製管の水中に浸漬し,管を設置した水槽の温度を1°Cから−4°Cまで低下させた。ヨウ化銀固定繊維の存在下で,水の過冷却が抑制されることを,水の相変化の目視および水温の測定によって実証した。
Silver iodide (AgI) is an ice-nucleating substance because its crystal is structurally analogous to ice crystal. To extend the application of AgI as a supercooling breaker, we immobilized AgI precipitates onto an anion-exchange fiber prepared by radiation-induced graft polymerization. The AgI-immobilized fiber was immersed in water in a plastic tube before the temperature of the tube-placed water bath was decreased from 1 to −4°C. In the presence of the AgI-immobilized fiber, the breaking of supercooling of water was demonstrated by direct observation of the phase transition of water and by measuring the temperature of water.
