In radiotheranostics, which has received attention in recent years, healthcare professionals are exposed to the radiation emitted from radioisotopes administered into a patient’s body, albeit at low doses. In order to reduce the healthcare professionals’ anxiety and to promote the safe handling of radiation, it is essential to acquire detailed knowledge of radiation exposure and the handling of patients undergoing radiotheranostics. This review aims to describe the current state of occupational radiation exposure in Japan and overseas, and assist healthcare professionals involved in nuclear medicine to safely perform medical procedures.

Key words: radiotheranostics; targeted radionuclide therapy; occupational radiation exposure; lutetium-177; radiation protection
