We prepared a surface source for imaging plates (IPs) by adding a 14C-labeled compound into ink cartridges and subsequent printing on photographic paper. The BAS-5000 measurement of the IPs confirmed that the surface source showed uniform distribution of radioactivity. The radioactivity counts and photostimulated luminescence levels were well correlated with the transmission levels of the printer. In addition, the present study also suggested the application of the surface source to bone density quantification of experimental animals.
