In order to estimate the human intake and the committed effective dose of several radioactive materials, the duplicate diet samples sampled from Saitama residents and boxed lunches were analyzed. The average concentration of radioactive caesium (134Cs+137Cs) in the duplicate diet samples was 0.054 Bq/person·day, and that of boxed lunches was 0.018 Bq/piece. The annual committed effective dose of the duplicate diet samples is estimated to be 0.26 μSv and that of boxed lunches is estimated to be 0.26 μSv. It is found that the doses of both are less than 0.03% of the annual effective dose limit for members of the public (1 mSv/year).

Key words: radioactive caesium; total diet; duplicated diet method; daily intake; boxed lunch; committed effective dose; Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident
